The Global Information History Workshop is an online peer-seminar and reading group co-organised by [Yuval Givon](https://en.scholion.huji.ac.il/people/yuval-givon) (Jerusalem), [Anja-Silvia Goeing](https://goeing.scholars.harvard.edu/) (Harvard) and [Philippe Bernhard Schmid](https://english.philhist.unibas.ch/en/persons/philippe-bernhard-schmid/) (Basel). The workshop is co-hosted by the University of Basel, Harvard University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, LMU Munich and the University of Zurich. While the monthly workshop announcement contains a reading list and is generally only distributed to our regular participants, we organize a symposium once a year at the end of spring term, which we advertise broadly.

[**The Polymath Conrad Gessner (1516-1565) as a Poet**](https://gzp1565.hsites.harvard.edu/) **(started October 2022)**

This website provides information and resources on Conrad Gessner, the Zurich physician, natural philosopher, bibliographer, collector and polymath (1516-1565). We are focusing on exhibiting samples of his poems in Latin and Greek with new English translation that he published in books authored by his contemporaries.

This website presents an updated and enlarged bibliography to accompany the reference book *Information: A Historical Companion* (Princeton: Princeton University Press, 2021). From 2025, it has added teaching resources for the book's spin off, *Information: A Short History* (Princeton: Princeton University Press, 2024).

Early Modern World at Harvard is a multi-disciplinary group composed of faculty, graduate students, and visiting researchers who study the historical traditions of early modernity across the globe. The website serves as its event and resources page.

[**Exams, Disputes and Dissertations: The Making of Medical Knowledge in Early Modern Europe**](https://sennertcollab.omeka.fas.harvard.edu/about) **(2018-today)**

How did early modern scholars work together to generate and publish new medical knowledge? This project examines an important bibliographic discovery: a set of 176 treatises, pamphlets, dissertations and disputations written by the renowned physician and professor of anatomy Daniel Sennert (Wrocław 1572–Wittenberg 1637) in his lifetime and in collaboration with different co-authors, 107 of them his supervised doctoral students.

[**Storing, Archiving, Organizing: The Changing Dynamics of Scholarly Information Management in Post-Reformation Zurich**](https://scholim1559.hsites.harvard.edu/) **(2016-today, resources site)**

This website is a non-profit project with the goal to provide information and resources for questions stirred by the reading of *Storing, Archiving, Organizing: The Changing Dynamics of Scholarly Information Management in Post-Reformation Zurich (2017).* The 500th anniversary of the Schola Tigurina in 2025 has triggered new and ongoing interest in making this into a valid resource.

[**The Funding of Higher Education: Different Objectives in Switzerland, the UK, and the USA** ](https://fundinghighered.hsites.harvard.edu/)**(2019-2020, Event Website)**

The research network discusses what is or should be the relationship between a democratic polity and its educational institutions and places of higher learning by looking at funding for research and higher education and its influence on topics, methodology, access, and outcome. Contemporary discussions of curricula place great stress on utility, on the value of learning skills as they apply not just to the employability of students, but to the economic and political well-being of a state or nation.

[**H-Ideas: Premodern Universities | Blog at H-Net** ](https://networks.h-net.org/group/282)**(2017-2019)**

This blog wanted to open a project that started in 2015 with a British Academy/Leverhulme Small Grant to bring together an international working group scrutinizing the nature and scope of higher learning and collaborative networks from the late Middle Ages to the era of Enlightenment. Once our book manuscript was handed over to the publisher in 2020, I've paused the coordination of this blog to work on ideas related to the larger issues of information history.
